GRANBURY HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER EXPERIENCING CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
June 20, 2007

Through the program, the teachers gain professional development by actually working in businesses and then creating lesson plans for the classroom based on their experiences. The program helps teachers stay current on business and industry skills and standards and, therefore, more effectively enabling them to prepare their students for the real world of work. Funding is provided by the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act of 1998 through the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
Each teacher was selected to work at a participating business for a week. Gentry was placed at KTVT, the CBS affiliate for the Dallas-Fort Worth area. "I have had an amazing experience and have been able to see newsmaking firsthand," she commented. Following the first week, the teachers toured area airports and aviation facilities. At the conclusion, each participant presented their experiences to the group.
