GRANBURY ISD SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS RECEIVE TRAINING AT STATE CONFERENCE

June 19, 2007

Members of the Granbury ISD Board of Trustees recently attended the Texas Association of School Boards Summer Leadership Institute.  The conference, which was held June 14-16, 2007, in San Antonio, was organized to provide information and training to school board members from around the state.  Attending from Granbury were Jerry Campbell, President; Micky Shearon, Vice President; Charlie Cloud, Secretary; Bowen Brawner; Doug Funk; and Kevin Myers.

General sessions featured Tonea Stewart, an actress and professor from Alabama State University, and Russell Quaglia, who serves as Executive Director of the Center for Research and Educational Advancement.  Participants attended break-out sessions on various topics covering the responsibilities of school board members.  On the final day of the conference, a seminar was held to provide an overview of changes in state law resulting from the recent session of the Texas Legislature.

At the conference, Campbell and Cloud facilitated a roundtable discussion among participants representing school districts with student populations of 5,000-7,999.  Because they agreed to lead this training session, the two board members received complimentary registration that provided substantial savings to the school district.

Texas state law requires that school board members receive continuing education and training annually.  Trustees may fulfill those requirements at TASB conferences, at seminars conducted by education service centers, or at other training sessions held throughout the year.
