GRANBURY ISD SCHOOL BOARD EXTENDS SUPERINTENDENT'S CONTRACT

The Granbury ISD Board of Trustees met for a regular meeting on Monday, June 12, 2007, and approved a contract extension for Superintendent William Harris. The action extends Harris’s contract through the 2008-2009 school year. Board members also approved an 8% salary increase and authorized Board President Jerry Campbell to restructure the contract.

However, the representative from VLK Architects indicated that remaining facility projects would be re-bid as a group in order to solicit a more favorable construction price. Those projects are the baseball complex, an agricultural science complex, canopies at elementary and intermediate campuses, and lighting at the high school tennis courts. Separately, PBK Architects provided an update of the long-term facility assessment.
The board approved a contract with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to conduct administrative activities to improve the availability, accessibility, coordination, and utilization of preventive and remedial health care resources to Medicaid eligible students and their families.
Superintendent Harris provided an overview of proposed
legal and local policies provided by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB); the board will consider the local policies at a future meeting.
In other business, trustees approved minutes from the May 21
st regular meeting and the May 25th regular meeting. In addition to several, budget amendments, the board approved the following purchases: school supplies, pole vault pits, novel sets, a food service catering van, intercom systems for Acton Elementary School and Baccus Elementary School, security equipment, parking lot services, career technology instructional supplies, and technology items. Renewals were granted for electrical services and supplies, HVAC supplies, paint supplies and equipment, building materials and supplies, grounds supplies, and custodial supplies.
At the beginning of the meeting, trustees recognized student achievements. Principal Lynn Pool, introduced several members of the
2006-07 Crossland Ninth Grade Center Student Leadership Team. During the past school year, the group inspired other students to perform well on the state TAKS tests. Using the theme 212° and asking others to give one more degree of effort to make a difference, the team stressed attitude, effort, focus, belief, and perseverance as positive factors to encourage achievement. In addition to speaking to Crossland classmates, the group also made presentations to assemblies at Acton Middle School and Granbury Middle School and also to district administrators.

Superintendent Harris recognized Athletic Director
Dwight Butler for completing the requirements to earn the designation of Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.
