GRANBURY STUDENTS MOTIVATED TO EXCEL ON STATE EXAMS
Students in Granbury ISD are preparing for a week of state exams that will be administered April 17-20, 2007. The Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS), which is required by state law and regulations issued by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), evaluates student performance in various subject areas.
In preparation for the tests, the Student Leadership Team at Crossland Ninth Grade Center inspired other students to perform well on the tests in order to achieve a recognized rating for the Class of 2010. Using the theme 212° and asking classmates to give one more degree of effort to make a difference, the group is stressing attitude, effort, focus, belief, and perseverance as positive factors to encourage achievement. After addressing an assembly at the ninth grade center, the team recently made a presentation to district administrators and principals to highlight their efforts. In addition, the group will speak at a TAKS Pep Rally at Granbury Middle School on Friday, April 13, 2007.

“Students perform well after getting a good night’s sleep and eating a balanced breakfast. It is important that parents help encourage their children to excel,” said GISD Testing Coordinator Vicki Thomas.
TEA strictly prohibits the use of cell phones and other telecommunication devices by students during the testing. Students are encouraged to leave all electronic devices at home. These include cell phones, pagers, MP3 players, iPods, and blackberries. Moreover, staff and teachers are also prohibited from using cell phones during the examinations.
