HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS HAVE OPPORTUNITIES TO PARTICIPATE IN LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS

February 2, 2007

Juniors at Granbury High School have two opportunities to participate in leadership programs.

The Granbury Rotary Club will send up to four juniors to the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, which will be held June 21-24, 2007, at Texas Woman's University in Denton .  Students attending the program will develop leadership skills, increase self-confidence, gain exposure to a variety of issues and people, improve career skills and knowledge, and meet community leaders and mentors.  Applications must be completed by Thursday, February 15, 2007.

Juniors interested in learning how state and local government works may also apply to participate in American Legion Boys State or Texas Bluebonnet Girls State .  Students will learn to understand and appreciate the basic principles involved in the successful management of a democratic society in order to keep America strong and ensure freedom for future generations.  Boys State will be held June 2-8, 2007, on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin, while Texas Lutheran University in Seguin will host Girls State June 12-19, 2007.  Applications for this program are due on Wednesday, February 14, 2007.

Costs for these programs will be covered by the sponsoring organizations.  Current juniors may pick up application packets at the GHS Counseling Office.  For more information, contact the counselors at (817) 408-4600.
