Several seventh graders in Granbury ISD recently received recognition from the Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP).  The program identifies gifted children and provides resources to nurture the development of exceptionally bright students.

Acton Middle School students chosen for state recognition were Cameron Hatfield, Evangelina Oviedo, and Alyssa Tigner.  From Granbury Middle School, Angela Cardoza and Blair Cowden received the recognition.  These students will receive invitations to participate in a recognition ceremony to be held on June 4, 2008, at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.  The state recognition ceremonies honor seventh graders who have earned scores equal to or better than half the college-bound seniors who took the tests.

Other students participating in the program were:  AMS – Astrid Avila, Brianna Dix, Madison Eichholtz, Jacob Essman, Jessie Fallin, Stuart Henley, Kyle Koiner, Harley Miles, Ashlee Myers, Blaine Prais, Chase Singleton, Daniel Stephens, and Katelyn Tigner; GMS – Brandon Lane, Maggie Meroney, Nicholas Shellenberger, Charles Wallace, Blake Ward, Grant Watts, Zachary Welty, and McKenzie Woods.

The talent search identifies students in sixteen states in the Southeast, Midwest, and Southwest who have scored in the 95th percentile on a grade-level achievement test. As part of the program, these academically talented students take above-level college-entrance exams (SAT or ACT) to learn more about their abilities.  In addition, all participants receive educational materials and resources through tenth grade to help them develop to their full academic potential.
