SHEPARD MAKES ASSOCIATED PRESS ALL-STATE FOOTBALL SQUAD
December 17, 2010
Granbury Pirate Johnny Shepard was among Texas football players honored on the 2010 Class 4A all-state high school football team as voted on by the Texas Associated Press Sports Editors based on regular-season performance.
An honorable mention selection, Shepard is a junior at Granbury High School and an offensive lineman on the Pirate football team. He was the only player selected for the AP list among District 7-4A schools.
“Johnny had a great year,” said Granbury head coach Scotty Pugh. “It was a really nice honor and gives him something to work toward next year [when he is a senior].”
Pugh was confident that Shepard would strive to achieve top all-state honors in 2011. “He’s driven,” the coach said.
Shepard was named to the all-district first team following the 2010 season, which saw the Pirates advance to the Class 4A Division I playoffs. It was the first bi-district appearance since 1977 – and the first post-season play since 1987, when the team competed in a zone playoff game.
