ROBERSON SECOND GRADER EXCELS AT TEXAS READING BEE

December 15, 2010

Lillian FullerLillian Fuller, a second grader at Emma Roberson Elementary School, placed second at the Texas Reading Bee Championship held November 20, 2010, at Texas Christian University.

Fuller excelled at the contest after reading at the twelfth-grade level, according to principal Kellie Lambert.

For the competition, students are judged in three areas:  accuracy (number of correct words), fluency (number of correct words per minute), and comprehension (number of correct answers to two explicit and one implicit questions).

Fuller was the Granbury district winner after a local competition at Roberson.  During the campus-level contest, she and runner-up Tyler Ellis both read at the eleventh-grade level.

Sponsored by Walmart and Score A Goal In The Classroom school incentive program, the championship featured winners from several Dallas-Fort Worth area school districts.  Over 60,000 North Texas second graders participated in this year’s competition.
