In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress passed a bill that required certain employers to provide paid leave to employees impacted by the coronavirus.
The Emergency Paid Sick Leave Act assisted working families facing public health emergencies arising out of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (“Covid-19”) global pandemic. EPSL was provided under the Families First Coronavirus Act (“FFCRA”) and became effective on April 1, 2020. The FFCRA paid leave provisions apply to qualifying leave taken between April 1, 2020, and December 31, 2020.
The EPSL and its requirements expire on December 31, 2020, and any unused EPSL cannot be carried over to the next calendar year.
